Search

Most searches end without a click. Your Google profile is the website now.

About two out of three Google searches end on Google. For a service business, that makes the free profile the front door and the website the back office.

A study covered by Search Engine Land put Google zero-click searches at 68% in early 2026. Most of the time, someone searches, reads what Google shows them, and leaves without visiting any site at all. When an AI Overview appears at the top, clicks fall further: Seer Interactive has tracked organic click-through on those queries dropping from about 1.8% to 0.6%.

For a two-truck company that means the thing people actually see is not your homepage. It is the map card with your name, your star rating, your hours, two photos, and the first line of your newest review.

The profile is the storefront

Treat your Google Business Profile like the front of the shop. It needs to be open (correct hours), stocked (services listed with descriptions), lit (recent photos), and staffed (reviews answered). Google rewards profiles with activity, and so do people.

  • Post once a week. A finished job with a photo and two sentences is enough.
  • Add every service you actually do, with a line of description each. This is what the assistants quote.
  • Upload photos from the truck. Real jobs beat stock every time.
  • Turn on messaging and answer it. A profile that responds gets chosen.

So what is the website for?

The website is where the shortlist gets confirmed and the job gets sized. It is the back office: the quote flow, the booking page, the service and city pages that let Google and AI answers say “yes, they do that, there.” It does not need to win the click. It needs to close the click that arrives.

If your site cannot give a rough price or take a booking without a phone call, it is a brochure, and brochures do not get read by people standing in a flooded kitchen.

The order of operations

Profile first, reviews second, website third. Most owners do it backwards, spend the budget on a redesign, and never touch the profile that two thirds of their customers are actually looking at.
